Diageo proposes Talisker demolition and rebuild

Talisker Distillery could be demolished to build a new facility after owner Diageo filed a proposal of application notice (PAN).

In the PAN, the description of the proposed development includes expanding the existing output of the distillery with the construction of a new distillery with sustainable technologies.

It also proposes new access, drainage, outfall, road improvement and landscape works – and the demolition of existing facilities to build a new facility.

A Diageo spokesperson said: “As a business, we continually review our production footprint in support of our long-term growth ambitions for Scotch and the proposal of application notice (PAN) for Talisker Distillery allows us to explore and evaluate potential options.

“A public consultation will form part of the PAN, however at this point in time we have no firm plans of investment.

“Details of the public consultation arrangements will be shared in due course where the community will be able to view these proposals and provide feedback.”

Talisker Distillery is based on Isle of Skye in Scotland. The distillery opened its new visitor centre in August 2022, which was part of parent company Diageo’s £185 million (US$257m) investment in Scotch tourism.

In August this year, the distillery released a limited edition 30-year-old single malt, priced at £1,300 (US$1,690).
