Dear Irving opens on Broadway

The third New York bar from Yves Jadot Restaurant Group’s (YJRG) Dear Irving brand will debut on Friday (11 October).

Adjacent to the Theater District, the site will pay homage to its neighbourhood through its cocktail and food menus, and offer two separate bars and a terrace.

It will be led by bar director and partner Meaghan Dorman, alongside head bartender Benjamin Zapien. Interiors were created by design expert Delphine Mauriot.

YJRG managing partner Yves Jadot said: “Ten years after opening our original Gramercy location and almost six years after our first expansion, we look forward to bringing the Dear Irving experience to even more people, retaining the brand’s signature creativity and exceptional service in a new setting.

“The post-Great Depression 1930s, a time when people leaned on entertainment as a form of escapism, serves as the inspiration for Dear Irving on Broadway. Plans for our third location had been in the works prior to the pandemic, and it feels beyond timely to bring this concept to life in the wake of another collective hardship.”

The opening drinks menu comprises 16 cocktails split into six categories, featuring both unique creations for the new site and favourites from the group’s other venues.

New categories for the Broadway bar include the ‘Gibson Gang’, a collection of pickle and preserve-inspired recipes, which includes the Gibbie Highball, a mix of Fords Gin, Macchu pisco, jasmine, verjus, London Essence peach and jasmine soda and pickled grapes.

The ‘Empire State Spirit’ category focuses on New York ingredients, such as in the Grand Central Smash, which blends Jaywalk Rye, Matchbook Strawberry Amaro, mint leaves, lemon juice and cinnamon syrup.

“Celebrating New York’s history and creatives, this new outpost is meant to express our gratitude to the city that has been so good to us over the past decade,” added Dorman.

“The Theater District is the heart of Manhattan, and as an ode to the ties between hospitality and theatre, we’ve tapped a few notable hospitality workers-turned-performers to collaborate on our opening menu.

“In the ‘My Regards to Broadway’ section, guests will find post-show cocktail recommendations from friends and former colleagues including Sherz Aletaha (recently in Merrily We Roll Along) and Joanna Carpenter (recently in Sweeney Todd).”

Other cocktails include the Xantolo, made with Madre Mezcal, reposado Tequila, Aleppo-spiced pineapple juice and lime juice, and the Deacon Blues, which blends Old Forester Signature Bourbon, Del Maguey Vida Puebla, black pepper and vanilla syrup.

Food options and more

The food menu will feature elevated plays on classic New York street eats, deli staples and theatre snacks, including the Golden Kaluga Caviar Roll, Broadway Hot Dog and Pastrami Sandwich.

The site entrance features a black-and-white theatre marquee as a nod to the early days of film, after which guests will enter a glass elevator to the fifth floor, which is bright and colourful, reflecting the advent of technicolour films.

After exiting the lift, guests will enter a lounge area with black marble flooring, maroon banquettes and iridescent ceilings, with a rectangular bar tucked behind sheer pink curtains. Behind the bar is a floor-to-ceiling painting by muralist Adeline Jadot, which features vibrant colours and circus imagery.

The outdoor bar features a spacious pergola with cushioned armchairs and large orange sofas, with an outdoor terrace beyond.
