Diageo-owned blended whisky Johnnie Walker is launching its new blend, Black Ruby, in global travel retail (GTR) in 2025.

Inspired by Johnnie Walker Black Label, the new ‘sweeter’ blend will debut at Diageo’s TFWA stand in Cannes this weekend.

Johnnie Walker Black Ruby was created by master blender Dr Emma Walker, and is made with whiskies from all four corners of Scotland.

Walker noted: “Johnnie Walker Black Ruby is inspired by the sweetest and fruitiest notes of Johnnie Walker Black Label, with honeyed richness and magnetic allure. Made for moments when the sun goes down and the vibe goes up; laughter fills the air, and the night exudes promise of being one to remember.”

Aiming to attract a new generation of whisky drinkers, the blend includes whiskies aged in ex-Bourbon, first-fill red wine, Pedro Ximenez and oloroso Sherry casks, creating fruity notes with berries and vanilla on the palate.

Andrew Cowan, managing director of Diageo Global Travel, commented: “Johnnie Walker is a brand trusted and respected worldwide. It is travel retail’s number-one whisky brand [according to ISWR 2023 data]. We have always sought to excite and engage travellers and consumers of Scotch, old and new. We believe Johnnie Walker Black Ruby is something a little different for our curious, sophisticated and open-minded travelling consumer.

“This is a Scotch for those seeking a different aperitif, something with which to craft a unique cocktail or just set the tone as the opening drink for a night ahead. We are thrilled to be able to bring this to our travel retail portfolio; it is truly something sweet and stylish in Scotch.”

Earlier this week, Johnnie Walker revealed the first 90% paper-based 700ml bottle for Black Label, which will be trialled in the on-trade.

Earlier this month, the brand announced the release of Blue Label Ultra in 2025, encased in the lightest glass whisky bottle in the world.
