Bladnoch debuts immersive theatre experience
Lowland distillery Bladnoch will host an on-site theatre experience called Tasting Notes this autumn.
The production will detail two centuries of whisky-making history and introduce guests to some of the distillery’s most notable characters, starting with founders John and Thomas McClelland.
The story will feature the distillery’s highs under different generations of the McClelland family through to its purchase by current owner David Prior in 2015.
The script was created by actor and voice artist Debora Weston, who has previously worked on Patriot Games, Thunderbirds, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Actors in the experience include Mark Kydd, best known for his roles in Clique and Taggart, and Mark Rannoch, Bladnoch’s global brand ambassador, who has also starred in TV series Outlander.
The production will run from 27-29 September, with guests given two single malt samples during the show. One will be Bladnoch Vinaya, which pays homage to the McClelland brothers and won Silver at The Scotch Whisky Masters 2021.
The show will conclude with a tutored tasting of new expression, Bladnoch 8 Year Old, by master distiller Dr Nick Savage.
The single malt is the inaugural release in Bladnoch’s Double Matured Collection and was aged in two types of American oak red wine casks. Bottled at 46.7% ABV, the whisky has ‘strawberries and cream with herbal pine cones’ on the nose, ‘strawberry jam, polished oak and nutmeg’ on the palate, and a ‘very long, sugary and warm’ finish.
CEO Glen Gribbon said: “Working with Debora to develop Bladnoch Tasting Notes has been a wonderful experience. We have a rich and storied past here at Bladnoch Distillery, and Debora’s talent and vision for bringing history to life on the stage has helped us condense 207 years of whisky-making heritage and bold Galloway spirit into one spectacular performance.
“Bladnoch Tasting Notes is one of the most significant events in our calendar this year, and we look forward to welcoming guests to the distillery to discover more about the people who shaped our early years.”
Tickets for Bladnoch Tasting Notes will be available for £25 (US$32) from 9 August.
Earlier this year, Bladnoch revisited its Master Distiller’s Collection with a new release and created a series based on its ‘most avid’ fans.
