BCB partners with OurWhisky Foundation
By Georgie CollinsThe OurWhisky Foundation has been named as the official education partner of Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) 2024.
In May, whisky was named BCB’s ‘Spirit of Honour’ for 2024, with the global trade show confirming it would host an additional education area dedicated to the spirit at this year’s three-day event.
“We see whisky is enjoying ever increasing popularity – both in retail and in bars,” said BCB director Petra Lassahn. “This spirit has reinvented itself, become more modern and is currently very trendy. And this is what we want to mirror at BCB with a dedicated area.”
The area, called The Whisky Embassy, will feature seminars and masterclasses curated by the OurWhisky Foundation, which was founded by journalist Becky Paskin in 2022.
The OurWhisky Foundation is the world’s first non-profit organisation to support, recognise and empower women in the global whisky industry.
The comprehensive Whisky Embassy programme will seek to take a closer look at the processes of whisky production, as well as the versatile taste and origins of the spirit, while providing continuing education ‘at the highest level’.
Paskin said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to play an active part in BCB and to be able to use this great platform to draw attention to our organisation and to the subject of whisky.
“We hope to welcome all BCB visitors to our education area to enhance their education and experience of this wonderful spirit and ignite their love of whisky.”
In episode six of The Spirits Business Podcast, Paskin discussed the development of gender equality in whisky. The episode is available to listen to on all major streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon.
