More than 50 craft distilleries around the UK will open their doors to visitors tomorrow (2 August) for National Distillery Day.

The annual celebration, which takes place on the first Friday in August, will see craft distilleries across the UK open their doors to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in tours to learn how different craft spirits are produced.

National Distillery Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the ‘Actually Made In’ campaign, established by four UK craft distilleries.

The initiative has now grown to include more than 120 distilleries, encouraging the public to support local distilleries that produce their own spirits on-site.

It is estimated that more than 50 distilleries will celebrate the day this year, including The Spirit of Manchester Distillery, Edinburgh Gin, Silent Pool, Harrogate Tipple and Shakespeare Distillery.

Spirit of Manchester leads by example

The Spirit of Manchester Distillery, home to Manchester Gin, is expecting more than 80 visitors on the day. The guests will be able to take part in free mini distillery tours to learn more about distilling, watch first-hand how gins, vodkas, whiskies, and rums are produced, and get a chance to taste their favourite spirits.

Spirit of Manchester produces a wide range of spirits, including One-Eyed Rebel Spiced Rum, Sphere English Vodka, One Point Six English Whisky and Forty-Five Vermouth. The distillery’s flagship product is Manchester Gin, which sells more than 150,000 bottles annually.

“National Distillery Day is a fantastic celebration of the craft distilling sector, and we are so excited to welcome the public to our venue this Friday,” said Jen Heeley-Wiggins, founder of The Spirit of Manchester Distillery.

“We have invested a huge amount into our distillery here in the centre of Manchester, and the amount of work and expertise needed for distilling is often underestimated. Guests are always blown away when they see the sheer scale of our production facilities.

“We can’t wait to show everyone how much passion and dedication goes into creating our award-winning spirits and celebrate National Distillery Day along with the hundreds of other distilleries across the country.”

The distillery is also home to the Three Little Words cocktail bar and distillery experience.
