The Cambridge is world’s first B Corp bar
By Rupert HohwielerParis-based The Cambridge Public House has become the first bar in the world to achieve B Corp status.

The bar received an overall impact score of 88.1 to gain the certification, which acknowledges businesses that meet a certain standard of social and environmental performance, public transparency and accountability.
Businesses need to hit 80 points to qualify for B Corp with the median score for ordinary businesses being 50.9.
Founders Hugo Gallou and Hyacinthe Lescoët opened The Cambridge in Paris in 2019, inspired by a classic British pub, and have since prioritised sustainability within the bar and among the wider hospitality industry.
The bar composts waste, partners with charities and local NGOs, and supports the wellbeing of local hospitality professionals with a bi-weekly running club.
Gallou and Lescoët, said: “We started our journey to B Corp 18 months ago and we are so pleased to be a part of the global community of businesses leading the movement in sustainability.
“We’ve learnt so much since opening our bar five years ago and we are continually implementing changes to ensure we are doing our part to help our community.
“We love being able to share our learnings with our peers in the hospitality industry through our Community Plan and we can’t wait to continue to do so as we work towards a more sustainable future.”
Last year, the bar launched a global community plan that will carry out six of the 17 sustainable development goals as outlined in the United Nations 2023 agenda.
The aim of the plan is to build a more sustainable future by helping local communities.
Its next phase is expected to launch later this year, focussing on education, environment and people.
Earlier this month, Gallou and Lescoët purchased Paris-based Little Red Door out of administration, after its bar director Alex Francis and former head bartender Barney O’Kane left the venue in January.
