Ad Gefrin releases exclusive casks
England’s northernmost distillery Ad Gefrin has introduced three new cask purchase options, featuring some of its first single malts.
The single malt whisky was distilled when production began in 2022 and has been ageing on site since.
The whisky will be finished in three barrique styles: Sauternes, Amarone and Cognac.
The distillery offered ex-Bourbon and ex-oloroso Sherry casks last year, which have been rereleased for this year.
Ben Murphy, director of distillery at Ad Gefrin, said: “With our continued offer of small amounts of Bourbon and Sherry casks, we have sourced several interesting casks that we are able to present in even more limited quantities. Casks that, I feel, complement our new make spirit but also bring something a bit different.”
Prices range from £4,800 (US$6,174) for an ex-Bourbon cask to £6,500 (US$8,360) for an oloroso hogshead.
All casks will remain on site, maturing for 10 years.
Each purchase includes between 200 and 250 litres of new make spirit, filled at 63.5% ABV. Owners can visit their cask and speak to the distillers. After three years, a 100ml sample will be taken annually.
Purchase includes 10 years of storage, under bond and insurance, as well as a certificate of ownership and a plaque on the distillery’s wall.
Casks are available exclusively to members of the distillery’s Corenkyn scheme, which closes at the end of 2024. Membership is priced at £2,022 (US$2,600).
Corenkyn is named after the Old English words for ‘chosen’ and ‘family’. Members receive lifetime access to Ad Gefrin’s exhibition and distillery tours and a plaque in the building, as well as eight 700ml bottles of whisky – including four annual exclusive Corenkyn releases. Other perks include early access to spirit launches, discounts at the shop and bespoke gifts.
Ad Gefrin’s launch in 2023 was part of a surge for England distilleries, which welcomed 54 new sites during the year.
