Rum Lab reveals festival cask pick

Event organiser and rum information platform The Rum Lab has announced the pre-sale of its first festival rum, chosen by a panel of judges in New York.

The Jamaican rum is bottled at 57.14% ABV by Holmes Cay

The first cask for The Rum Lab was selected through a blind tasting by a 14-member jury of industry professionals at the 2023 New York Rum Festival & Conference.

In collaboration with Holmes Cay Rum, a bottler of rums, the jury was given a diverse selection of single cask samples by E&A Scheer from around the Caribbean and the world.

The winner, Holmes Cay Jamaica WPL 2012 edition, is a 100% pot still rum made from molasses and distilled in Lluidas Vale, Jamaica.

The single cask rum was aged for 11 years: eight in ex-Bourbon casks in the tropical climate and three additional years in Europe.

Bottled at 57.14% ABV, the expression offers ‘baking spice, ripe banana and vanilla on the nose, with more tropical fruit, caramel, spice and creamy vanilla on the tongue and a lasting finish of leather and toffee’.

“The New York RumFest has been an eagerly anticipated event for rum fans for seven years, and we are proud to bring a festival cask pick chosen by the rum connoisseurs who attend RumFest annually. We are very pleased to collaborate with  Holmes Cay, known for bringing ultra-premium rums to the US market, for our first cask selection,” said Federico Hernandez, founder of The Rum Lab.

The expression will be showcased at the 2024 New York Rum Festival on 8 June and will be available in the US at the beginning of June.

The Holmes Cay Jamaica WPL 2012 pre-sale is now available at curiada.com for US$99.99.
