Pancho Datos Tequila raises £400,000

Tequila brand Pancho Datos has gained nearly £400,000 (US$500,000) in investment as it looks to accelerate its growth.

The brand is looking to increase its market presence

The investment round was led by chairman of M&C Saatchi Merlin, Richard Thompson.

Thompson said: “Pancho Datos was such a compelling proposition, and I am delighted to lead this investment round.

“The liquid, the brand, and the team are fantastic, and with the investors we now have, we can provide business and market expertise, as well as talent to fuel rapid and effective growth.”

Previous investors in Pancho Datos have included former supermodel and TV personality Jodie Kidd, who is a shareholder and brand ambassador, as well as former footballer Jermaine Jenas and CEO at M&C Saatchi, Marcus Peffers.

The brand takes its name from Ricardo Grijalva de Leon’s poems of the same name, written in 1947, about the Mexican Revolution.

It has two expressions in its range: Plata, which is unaged with herbal, slightly sweet and peppery notes – and Reposado, which has been aged for 10 months in ex-Bourbon white oak casks.

The Plata can be picked up for £56.95 (US$71) and the Reposado for £61.95 (US$78) on Master of Malt.

The brand aims to use the investment to maximise its brand exposure through strategic sales and marketing initiatives.

“We have been on such an incredible journey with Tequila Pancho Datos,” added Stuart Wischhusen, brand owner and managing director of Pancho Datos.

“We know we have an incredible liquid, brand, and team. To have this backed by an amazing group of investors is something special. They provide the expertise we need to become a market-leading super-premium Tequila brand.”

Another Tequila brand to raise investment recently was London-based El Rayo, to the tune of £1.33 million (US$1.69m).

In general, Tequila sales are forecasted to reach US$24.19 billion by 2031 and the category is showing little sign of going out of fashion.

In the UK, Tequila’s popularity continues to rise with the Margarita being the most-searched cocktail on Google last year – boasting a total monthly search volume of 83,750.
