Salford Rum Co to release coffee variant

UK-based The Salford Rum Company is launching a coffee rum, made in collaboration with a local independent roastery.

The limited edition coffee rum will retail for £42 (US$53)

The rum has been created with the use of Salford Roasters’ Signature Blend coffee and is said to have a ‘rich and smooth’ taste with notes of ‘vanilla, chocolate, almond and molasses’.

Tommy Gaughan, co-founder of Salford Rum, said: “Just like our rum, Salford Roasters reflects the city of Salford’s innovative industrial and iconic past and modern, fearless future.

“It’s the perfect city of Salford collab for local rum, coffee or cocktail aficionados or collectors of limited edition bottles. We are super proud of this product.”

In keeping with the trend of the rise of coffee cocktails, the brand said the new expression can be used for a variety of coffee-based serves, such as an Espresso Rumtini.

The cocktail can be made by hard shaking 50ml of the coffee rum with 40ml of fresh espresso and 20m of sugar syrup (to create a foam), and then fine-straining into a Martini glass and garnishing with three coffee beans.

The 37.5% ABV expression will launch on the brand’s website at 8pm (GMT) on 24 March for £42 (US$53).

In addition, a limited edition set with a bespoke Salford Rum coffee cup and a bag of Salford Roasters coffee beans will also be available for £60 (US$75).

The brand opened its first distillery and bar in Manchester, in early 2022.

It was founded in 2018 by school friends Tommy Gaughan and James Harrison, who shared a goal of making a local premium rum that would ‘rival luxury gins on the market’.
