Masterclass to demystify American whiskey
By Lauren BowesWhiskey fans in Bristol will have the opportunity to learn all about the category during a masterclass hosted by drinks writer Kristiane Sherry.

Created by trade body the Distilled Spirits Council of the US (Discus), the event is part of the organisation’s Cheers! Spirits from the USA campaign, which aims to share knowledge and ideas on American whiskey.
The masterclass will take place at Racks Bar & Kitchen in Clifton on Monday 15 April, from 3pm to 5pm.
The session will introduce the four key subcategories of American whiskey: Bourbon, Tennessee, American rye, and American single malt.
The first hour of the session will see Sherry introduce the four different categories and give guided tastings of the neat spirits.
This will be followed by an hour-long cocktail demonstration, featuring four different cocktails that highlight the four categories.
Discus is a trade body that advocates for distilled spirits businesses in the US. Its members include Clase Azul Tequila, Spirit of Gallo, and Stoli vodka.
US spirits exports reached a record high in 2023, driven by American whiskey sales, which benefitted from the EU’s tariff suspension. Whiskey exports reached US$1.4 billion and took a 63% share of total spirit exports.
