Popkin, who currently serves as vice-president of sales at vodka producer Stoli Group, will oversee the US, Canadian and Latin American markets for Compass Box.

Based in Pompano Beach, Florida, Popkin will start his new role on 26 February.

He has also held positions including senior vice-president of sales for Taub Family Selections/Pasternak and director of sales for Red Bull, as well as sales roles with Southern Wine in Las Vegas and Premier Beverage in Florida.

“I knew when I first tasted Compass Box Whisky 20 years ago as field sales manager in Florida, I was in love,” Popkin said.

“The quality of liquid, combined with their unique storytelling, made me a believer from day one and I couldn’t be more excited to be back working with this incredible brand again.”

Popkin will join Compass Box’s global leadership team and report to the company’s CEO, Maurice Doyle.

Doyle said he was thrilled that Popkin was joining the team, calling him a “proven sales leader”.

He added: “The US in particular is a vital market for us. This is a key appointment as we look to expand Compass Box’s presence in the Americas as part of our mission to grow the brand.”

Compass Box named London-based Caelum Capital as its majority shareholder in April 2022.

Last year the Scotch producer unveiled Metropolis, the latest expression in its Extinct Blends Quartet series.
