Whisky Exchange debuts 14YO Foursquare rum

Spirits retailer The Whisky Exchange has launched a 14-year-old rum in collaboration with Barbadian producer Foursquare Distillery.

The rum, named Foursquare Mystique, was presided over by the distillery’s master blender and distiller, Richard Seale. It was matured for a decade in ex-Bourbon barrels before being moved to an ex-Sherry cask for its last four years.

The dual 14-year maturation process in addition to the hot climate is said to have given the liquid ‘tropical fruit flavours’, with notes of coffee, tobacco and cigar boxes.

“We have always been huge supporters of Foursquare at The Whisky Exchange and it is an honour to partner with Richard Seale on another limited release with him,” said Dawn Davies, head buyer at The Whisky Exchange.

“The rums are the perfect stepping stone for the whisky drinker who wants to explore this fast-growing category as well as providing delicious liquid for the rum lover.”

Not only has the tropical maturation ‘sped up the integration of oak and spirit’, but it’s also given the Mystique expression attributes normally associated with much older spirits, the retailer said.

Other notes include dried orange peel and pan-roasted spice on the nose, with brown sugar and buttered toffee popcorn on the palate, and a finish described by Davies as a “rum for the whisky lover who appreciates a rich, Sherry cask dram”.

Bottled at 62% ABV, Foursquare Mystique can be picked up exclusively from The Whisky Exchange for £110 (US$140).

Last month, the retailer named its Whisky of the Year 2024: Loch Lomond 18 Year Old.
