Ron del Barrilito launches single cask rum series

Puerto Rican rum brand Ron del Barrilito has launched a series of single cask rums that honour the legacy of brand founder Pedro Fernández.

Only 143 bottles of Don Pedro Fernández Selection I will be available, with future releases receiving US distribution

The first release in the series, Don Pedro Fernández Selection I, was aged for 32 years in 500-litre Oloroso sherry barrels, and is bottled at 44.8% ABV. Only 143 bottles are available, each priced at US$1,485. Selection I was barreled on 24 January 1991 and comes from barrel number 1,171.

The series launch celebrates the 150th anniversary of when Don Pedro first created Ron del Barrilito Three Stars, which he developed after visiting Paris and studying Cognac and other fine spirits. Over time, Don Pedro began identifying special casks and setting them aside for friends.

The Don Pedro Fernández Selection honours this practice. While Three Stars is typically aged between six and 10 years, the new series will feature rums aged between 25 and 45 years of age.

Those interested can secure a bottle by calling the Ron del Barrilito Concierge, visiting the Hacienda Santa Ana Visitor Center, or going to the Ron del Barrilito website. Future releases will receive US distribution.

In late November, bottling company House of Rum debuted its own line of single cask rums, spanning liquid from Barbados, Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago. Each expression yields no more than 300 bottles.
