Ron Cofiño debuts 18YO rum
By Lauren BowesPuerto Rican brand Ron Cofiño is entering the US market with an 18-year-old expression.
The 40% ABV rum is matured through a triple-ageing process that adapts the Spanish solera method. With a solera ageing system, as no barrel is ever fully drained, the mixture blends with any remaining product left in each barrel. Up to 75% of each barrel is extracted every year, ensuring a consistent flavour.
On the nose, it offers a ‘blend of Bourbon, dried fruits, and raisins’. It is said to be ‘robust and nuanced’ on the palate, with a ‘toasty and velvety aftertaste’.
The Ron Cofiño brand was founded by Roberto Echevarría Cofiño, who is also behind the AT Cofiño cigar brand. The brand first launched in Puerto Rico and is now expanding to Florida.
Ron Cofiño Aniversario 18 Years will debut at the Miami Rum Congress, which will take place on 9-11 February. It will also be present at the Puerto Rico National Rum Festival on 9 March.
The Miami Rum Congress was named one of our top spirits events to attend for 2024. As well as Ron Cofiño’s debut, the fair will feature a bartending competition, a rum documentary screening and more.
