Kingsbarns Distillery, in East Neck of Fife, is relaunching its ‘pay-what-you-like’ visitor experience

The initiative was introduced in December 2022, with tours running once every Sunday until the end of March 2023.

Now, the award-winning distillery is running two daily tours – one for whisky, and one for gin – seven days a week until the end of February 2024.

During the visit, guests will be guided through the distillery’s exhibition space. Visitors will be able to learn about the history and heritage of the Kingsbarns brand, as well as the production processes of whisky and gin. Tours end with a sampling of either Kingsbarns’ malts or Darnley’s gin.

Each tour costs £14 (US$18) per person and lasts for an hour, though visitors are open to pay what they like.

Tours can be booked through Kingsbarns’ official website, including the zero-pay ‘pay-what-you-like’ ticket.

Andrea Morris, visitor engagement manager at Kingsbarns Distillery, said: “This has been an exceptionally challenging year financially for many people and with the continuing cost-of-living pressures, we decided to expand the initiative to ensure that our award winnings tours are accessible to all, whether they’re spirits enthusiasts, or locals and visitors looking to learn more about the distilling process.”

Kingsbarns Distillery began as a semi-derelict farm steading, built around 1800 as part of East Newhall Farm to service the adjoining Cambo Estate.

A three-year restoration project involving specialist architects, engineers, designers and whisky specialists transformed the building into the distillery and visitor centre that is now in place.

The distillery’s flagship single malt is Dream to Dram. Balcomie, an exclusively Sherry cask-matured single malt whisky, joined the Kingsbarns’ range in November 2020 with Bell Rock and Falklands releases soon after.
