Due to go on sale this month (October), the Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is the latest release in the producer’s Six18 Step Collection.

The single pot still whiskey is made from both malted and unmalted barley, and was distilled three times before being filled into ex-Bourbon barrels.

The majority of the whiskey was then finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. However, a small portion was briefly rested in ex-peated casks.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the limited edition release is said to have aromas of nuts, caramel, wood and hints of camomile. The palate is described as having flavours of dried fruit, papaya, jalapeños, apples and a ‘whisper’ of smoke.

The whiskey will be available to buy online via skelligsix18distillery.ie, from retailers across Ireland – priced at RRP €60 (US$63) – and in international markets.

Skellig Triple Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey secured a trio of Master medals in The Irish Whiskey Masters 2023.

Skellig Six18 is named after the 618 steps that were carved into Skellig Rock by monks during the sixth century. The steps were made to allow the monks to reach their monastery, which is now a Unesco world heritage site.

Located in the town of Cahersiveen, along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, the distillery and visitor centre were established in 2017. Skellig Six18 currently matures whiskey on site, where it also creates Skellig Six18 Gin. The installation of a fully operational whiskey plant is planned for 2024.
