The Genepi-Grappa

Gallicus was founded in 2018 by a team of enthusiasts who hail from two countries renowned for making high-quality spirits – France and Italy.

After dealing with the challenges of Covid-19, the team embarked on a journey to create a series of spirits inspired by the two nations. It also seeks to unite the two countries, which have, at times, experienced rivalry and competition when it comes to winemaking and distillation.

Gallicus said it serves as a testament to shared creativity and collaboration, putting past disputes aside in pursuit of a shared vision. The company aims to celebrate the artistry of both countries and the common appreciation for exceptional spirits.

Gallicus has chosen to use a number of spirits from across France and Italy, including Cognac, Calvados, limoncello, grappa and herbal liqueur genepi. Each base spirit was chosen for its unique character, embodying the quintessence of France and Italy.

At the heart of Gallicus is the art of blending, with a team focused on crafting blends that enhance the best characteristics of each base spirit. Gallicus also spent 18 months designing the packaging of the spirits, which each embody the essence of France and Italy’s cultures.

The Gallicus range

The Gallicus range includes Cognac-Amaro, Calvados-Limoncello and Genepi-Grappa. Cognac-Amaro is described as an enchanting blend of French sophistication and Italian bitter subtlety, bringing a taste experience like no other. It combines Cognac from the Charente vines and amaro made from spices, botanicals and bitter and sweet oranges from Sicily.

The expression offers bitter orange notes, liquorice, and sweet spices such as cinnamon and cumin, alongside the woody, vanilla, and roasted notes of the Cognac ageing in oak barrels. Cognac-Amaro can be enjoyed with or without ice, and mixed in classic cocktails such as Negroni or Manhattan.

Calvados-Limoncello combines Italian limoncello with Calvados from Normandy, France. Calvados is known for its fruity and woody flavour, with notes of apple, vanilla, and caramel. Popular in Italy, Limoncello is known for its tangy and refreshing taste. It is best enjoyed chilled in a balloon glass with plenty of ice, and can be savoured as an aperitif, cocktail or digestif.

Combining Veneto grappa and genepi from the French alps, Genepi-Grappa offers a fresh nose with floral, herbal and peppery notes. Spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon follow on the palate. Gallicus recommends drinking it with lots of ice, or in serves such as a gin and tonic or Spritz.
