Tongue In Peat receives financial backing

The world’s only peat-smoked tomato juice, Tongue In Peat, has secured ‘significant’ investment as it seeks to broaden its horizons internationally.

Since its beginnings during lockdown in 2020, the brand has caught the eye of drinks industry veteran Chris Cosh – who provided the initial seed investment – and become recognised as a Bloody Mary mixer, finding residence at a host of premium hospitality venues, including Gleneagles, the Hawksmoor Estate, The Torridon and Mayfair Town House.

Its latest investment boost comes from Dundee-based Ruby Capital, a new investment portfolio founded by Scottish entrepreneur and philanthropist Tony Banks.

Bruce Casely, Ruby Capital’s chief investment officer, explained why the brand attracted their interest: ‘“At Ruby we are keen to support emerging business talent and superb products.

“We think Hannah [Fisher, founder] and the team at Tongue in Peat have both a great product and an exciting future.

“We support a diverse range of companies where we think we can add value and we are looking forward to helping develop the world’s best Bloody Mary mixer.”

The juice, handcrafted in Scotland, went through a 20-month trial period before it entered the market and is made in small batches – ”cold smoked for 12 hours with Islay peat smoke to create a richer, deeper and more complex taste”.

Founder Hannah Fisher said of the investment: “We have been extremely lucky to have investors who not only bring significant drinks experience to the board but are passionately committed to our success, continually offering hands-on support.”

Now, Fisher has her sights set on North America and said this investment would help to ensure it is well on its way.
