Puerto de Indias is top-selling spirit in Spanish duty free
Gin brand Puerto de Indias was the best-selling spirit in Spain’s travel retail market last year after it sold more than 200,000 bottles.
Throughout 2023, the Spanish gin brand said it has seen a consistent monthly average of 40,000-plus bottle orders in duty free.
The Seville-based producer partnered with retailer Dufry in travel retail, which enabled the gin to expand its market presence.
The gin can be found in all 57 Spanish airports.
The producer has secured ‘prime spaces’ in major Spanish airports, including Madrid, Barcelona, Ibiza, Palma, and Málaga, among others.
Furthermore, the brand is available in international airports in the coastal areas of Costa Rica, Mexico and Argentina.
A poll by Puerto de Indias and 3Gem UK Consumer Research found that more than half of British tourists have visited Spain in the last five years, with more than 30% choosing gin as their preferred tipple.
In addition, six out of 10 British tourists admit that they taste local gins when travelling abroad and 74% said they look for gin brands they tried on holiday when they return home.
When asked which Spanish gin brands they would recommend to friends and family, Puerto de Indias came out on top with 37%.
We sat down with the operations director and international sales manager of Puerto de Indias to discuss new launches, category challenges and sustainability.
In November 2022, the brand launched a blackberry-flavoured bottling in the UK following its debut in Spain.
