SanYou in Shenzhen is one of the bars that will present a cocktail menu created with the Chinese gin

Chinese brand Peddlers Gin has teamed up with acclaimed bars Shenzhen-based SanYou and The Merchant Hotel in Belfast to host the takeovers.

Taking place to mark China’s annual Golden Week celebrations, both bars will offer exclusive menus from 1-7 October, with drinks created using different expressions of the gin as the base.

SanYou focuses on Chinese-made spirits with the aim of showcasing China’s products, and demonstrating how world-class bartenders can utilise them.

The menu will feature cocktails such as the Grilled Pineapple Milk Punch, made with Peddlers Barrel Aged Gin, baijiu, whiskey, vanilla and pepper cordial, black tea bitters and salted grilled pineapple; The Cocotini, made with Peddlers Gin, coconut oil-washed baijiu, poitín, mint tea-infused sweet vermouth and a mint leaf oil drop; and the Long High, made with Peddlers Gin limoncello, Thai tea, lemongrass and black sugar cordial, and lemon juice.

Meanwhile Northern Ireland’s Merchant Hotel is known for blending heritage with modern luxury.

On The Merchant Hotel’s menu, visitors will find creations such as a Belfast to Shanghai Coffee, made with Peddlers Barrel Aged Gin, poitín and cold brew coffee; an Irish White Negroni, made with Peddlers Gin, seaweed-infused Italicus, Suze and lemon tincture; and the Peddlers Flip, made with Peddlers Barrel Aged Gin, coffee liqueur, stout syrup, milk, cream and an egg.

Peddlers founder Fergus Woodward commented: “Our mission is to bring Chinese spirits and bar culture to the world, so being able to collaborate between Belfast and China with global industry leaders is really special.”

The gin, founded in Shanghai in 2016, uses local Chinese ingredients and botanicals, including Sichuan pepper, buddha’s hand citrus, and Gansu lotus.

It positions itself as the ‘world’s first Chinese craft gin’.

The gin is distributed in the UK by Kirker Greer Spirits.

At The Gin Masters 2023, the brand won a Master medal for its barrel-aged expression.

In other bar takeover news, October will also see brandy producer Seven Tails Distillers team up with Manchester-based Schofield’s Bar for a series of guest shifts across Europe.
