Craigellachie 37 Years Old launches for £3,800

Speyside distillery Craigellachie has released a limited edition 37-year-old single malt Scotch whisky.

Craigellachie 37 Years Old Bourbon Cask was distilled in 1984 and initially aged in refill casks before being transferred into first-fill Bourbon casks.

The whisky sits at 46.5% ABV and is limited to 3,012 bottles, each priced at £3,800 (US$3,245).

Stephanie Macleod, Bacardi’s director of blending, said: “Slumbering in refill casks for more than three decades has really allowed for Craigellachie’s challenging distillery style to shine through. The pineapple flavour note Craigellachie is so well known for has aged beautifully.

“Finishing in first-fill casks – one of the most influential types of cask, in terms of their contribution to the flavour – has bestowed notes of creamy coconut, vanilla and citrus to the aged malt, giving it a boost of indulgent complexity.”

Craigellachie 37 Years Old will first launch in travel retail exclusively via Gebr Heinemann until 1 August in Istanbul, Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

Afterwards, the whisky will be made available in the UK, Germany, France, China and Taiwan.

Macleod added: “The aroma opens with notes of pineapple tarte tatin and crème anglaise, balanced with soft cereals and notes of toasted banana bread.

“Faint whispers of fire embers emerge with the addition of water then fade to spicy vanilla and delicate oak-derived coconut.

“The palate is boldly complex with sweet acidity at first, mellowing to soft fruits and almonds with a long, indulgent finish.”
