Caleño gets B Corp status

Non-alcoholic ‘spirit’ brand Caleño has received B Corp certification from non-profit network B Lab.

The certification was awarded by B Lab, a non-profit network striving to transform the global economy

Founded by Ellie Webb in 2019, the brand joins more than 6,200 businesses that have also been awarded the accreditation, having been recognised for its commitment to its employees, as well as its policies and ‘overall company mission’.

Webb said: “Caleño is committed to operating our business as a force for good and we are so proud to have been awarded B Corp status.

“Achieving this accreditation is no mean feat, the application process is rigorous to ensure that only those businesses that meet the highest environmental and social standards are awarded. We’ve learnt a lot throughout this journey, and are committed to keeping these high standards up for the long haul.”

The certification is awarded by B Lab, a non-profit network that ‘strives to transform the global economy to benefit people, communities and the planet’.

Alongside the B Corp certification, the company has also introduced a new policy offering a ‘hangover day’ on top of annual leave allowance for its employees – for those moderating, sober or drinking alcohol, the brand has said it believes everyone should be ‘entitled to hangover days off’.

Webb continued: “We’ve built a brand and culture that proudly scored high in areas including Workers, Community and Environment giving us a B Corp score of 84.5, which we’ll continue to improve upon from here on out.

“To hold ourselves accountable to that promise, we’re declaring it our mission to make Caleño the most joyful place to work and will be squeezing the most out of every existing Caleño policy, as well as introducing new ones to make that happen.”

Recent drinks companies that have also been awarded B Corp certification include non-alcoholic apéritif Everleaf, Elephant Gin, and 818 Tequila.
