Glengoyne offers free whisky to help charity

Highland producer Glengoyne is calling for volunteers to help protect the wetlands for a day in exchange for a free bottle of whisky and a distillery tour.

Glengoyne 15 Year Old was released in October 2022 with a pricetag of £90 (US$107)

The single malt producer is asking whisky fans to pledge one volunteering day with the UK’s wetland conservation charity Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), Glengoyne’s long-standing charity partner.

For donating their time, drinkers will receive a free bottle of Glengoyne 15-year-old whisky and an invite to the distillery for an in-depth tour.

Katy Muggeridge, brand director at Ian Macleod Distillers, owner of Glengoyne, said: “The environment is at the heart of everything we do, and our 11-year partnership with WWT is testament to this.

“In launching the 15 Year Old, we wanted to give back to the beautiful ecosystem that allows us to produce our single malt. So, by donating just one day of your time to WWT, whisky fans will be able to help protect carbon-capturing wetlands, aid the conservation of migratory geese, and take home a bottle of this excellent new dram.”

Those selected by Glengoyne for volunteer work will carry out wetland-sustaining activity at one of WWT’s UK sites.

Volunteers will be coppicing trees, clearing vegetation and removing invasive plant species to create biodiverse wetland habitats.

Glengoyne became the first Scottish distillery to adopt a wetlands facility for 100% of its liquid waste in 2011. The move helped the site reduce waste by 25% and provided a home to 14,500 plants and wildlife.

Georgie Cox, corporate partnerships manager at the WWT, added: “Glengoyne constantly show such vocal support for the importance of wetlands, and thanks to this support we’ve been able to show how much these green spaces can do for people and the planet in our fight against climate change.

“We’re proud to call them our partners and are excited to turn whisky enthusiasts into wetland enthusiasts as well.”

Whisky drinkers can sign up to the initiative by visiting Glengoyne’s website, where the 15-year-old is also available for purchase.

Bottled at 43% ABV, Glengoyne 15 Year Old is priced at £90 (US$107) per 700ml bottle.

Released in October 2022, the whisky was matured in a combination of Bourbon and Sherry casks.

The nose offers hints of malt flour, fresh hay, dried fruits, citrus and rosehip, leading to flavours of tropical fruit, cinnamon, vanilla and apple. The finish is dry with gentle spice and lingering oak.
