Alcohol-free Caleño expands to UAE
By Alice BrookerNon-alcoholic ‘spirits’ brand Caleño Drinks has launched in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after securing listings with retailers Spinneys and Waitrose.
Caleño boasts two ‘tropical’ expressions in its portfolio: Dark & Spicy, a spiced rum alternative; and Light & Zesty, a gin alternative. Each expression contains 0.0% ABV.
The brand was founded four years ago by Ellie Webb, said to be the only solo female founder in the no-and-low drinks category in the UK.
She said: “We have been blown away by the success of Caleño in every market it has entered so far, and our goal is to continue to build on that success as we introduce the brand to consumers in the UAE.
“We feel that Caleño will be a great addition to Spinneys’ drinks portfolio.”
The Dark & Spicy iteration is described as bold and ‘packed with complex flavours of Colombia’, and recommended served with ginger ale over ice, and garnished with a wedge of lime.
Meanwhile, the Light & Zesty ‘spirit’ is distilled with a mix of citrus, inca berry and pineapple, and said to be best served with tonic water over ice, garnished with a wedge of fresh pineapple.
The bottlings will be available to purchase in the UAE both online and in-store from supermarkets Spinneys and Waitrose.
The two expressions retail for RRP AED 78.75 (US$21.44) for a 500ml bottle.
Caleño will also be exhibiting at Gulfood trade show from 20-24 February in the Department for International Trade’s stand at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Last year, launched its summer campaign to sustain the brand’s ‘momentum’ since Dry January 2022.
