Montanya Distillers increases output tenfold
By Melita KielyRum producer Montanya Distillers has completed a ‘substantial’ distillery expansion that will increase its current capacity tenfold.
Located in Colorado, US, the company worked to ensure its expansion is sustainable.
Founder and owner Karen Hoskin said: “I couldn’t escape the sense that there was more to do, a higher bar to clear. I wanted a revolution.”
Following the completion of the new tasting room in January this year, the distillery expansion and its ‘radically rethought systems’ began operating in August.
Hoskin added: “Montanya stabilised staff turnover and employee scarcity and implemented many improved daily practices: from how we source glass to how we biodigest waste, from how we pay our employees to how we chill fermentations, from how we capture and recirculate water to how we print our labels and recycle plastic film.
“We believe our approach is the future of the spirits industry.”
Montanya Distillers is a B Corp-certified business. The producer uses American-grown ingredients to create its spirits.
The company’s portfolio includes Platino light rum, Oro dark rum, and an older, limited edition expression, called Exclusiva.
In 2019, Constellation Brands acquired a minority stake in Montanya Distillers for an undisclosed sum.
