Ian Macleod debuts GTR-exclusive whisky

Scottish spirits producer Ian Macleod Distillers has released a travel retail-exclusive Scotch whisky brand and a new flavoured variant under its Edinburgh Gin brand.

The White Cask is described as an ‘accessibly priced’ Scotch whisky

The products were unveiled at the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) show in Cannes, France, this week.

The new Speyside Scotch brand, called The White Cask, will be exclusive to the travel retail channel for two years.

It is described as a ‘contemporary and accessibly priced’ single malt, targeted at ‘style-driven’ consumers drinkers of Bourbon and blended malt whisky.

The White Cask takes its name from North American white oak (Quercus Alba), which is typically used by Bourbon producers. The liquid comes from an undisclosed Speyside distillery.

The whisky offers notes of vanilla, honey, citrus and apple on the palate.

Ian Macleod Distillers’ global travel retail (GTR) director, William Ovens, said: “The White Cask is one of the few malts which appeals to the younger and more contemporary audience. The travel retail market is the perfect environment for us to seed the brand for a future domestic launch.”

The White Cask, The First-Fill Edition 1L (41.1% ABV) will be available from February next year in travel retail, priced at RRP £39 (US$44).

In addition to whisky, Ian Macleod also added a new flavour, Orange & Basil, to its Edinburgh Gin range. The London Dry-style gin carries an RRP of £29.99 (US$33).

During the TFWA show, the company also revealed a new design for King Robert II, described as the number one value blended Scotch in global travel retail.

The brand also offered its first age statement whiskies and the GTR-exclusive King Robert II 8 Years Old.

Furthermore, the company also gave its Highland Scotch whisky Shieldaig American Oak Reserve a new design. The expression is priced at RRP £36 (US$40).
