The distillery will focus on sustainable practices

The Tequila brand initially unveiled plans to build the new distillery, located in Atotonilco El Alto in the Jalisco mountains, in July 2021.

It will be run by the Vazquez family, who are ‘renowned’ agave farmers and Tequila producers, and is said to be perfectly placed for the Vazquez family’s agave fields in and around Atotonilco El Alto in the Los Altos region.

The project, from ‘very early planning stages’, has laid focus on sustainability.

The construction has allowed for ‘conservation’ of surrounding flora and fauna, with the main events space designed around an ancient tree.

In 2023, the Vazquez family is planning to plant an additional 300 trees in the area, while solar panels and wind turbines are intended to provide power.

The surrounding town of San Francisco de Asis will also benefit from the project according to the distillery, with locals working on the construction of the site, as well as being ‘destined for further jobs’ within the distillery upon completion.

Additionally, leftover piñas are used to heat Cazcabel’s autoclaves. Natural yeast on agave leaves will be utilised to control the fermentation process, and each bottle will soon be made from 80% recycled glass.

An events space will cater for guests and tours, plus showcase the history of Tequila.

Father and son Alfredo and Uziel Vazquez will be ‘heading up’ Cazcabel’s new brand home, crafting Tequila from six-year-old Blue Weber agave and crushed using traditional methods.

Cazcabel Blanco is made using 100% agave.

In the last year, the brand said it has shipped more than 200,000 cases of Cazcabel outside of the Americas, and is on course to sell more than a million cases per year globally by 2025.
