Holyrood Distillery debuts two new gins

Edinburgh-based Holyrood Distillery has added two gins to its Height of Arrows range, called Bright and Heavy.

Each of the Height of Arrows expressions champions a juniper-forward profile

The juniper-forward gin brand draws on the idea that whisky’s ‘myriad’ of flavours relies on only a handful of ingredients.

For the new expressions, the juniper has been manipulated to create the two complex gins, offering a new drinking experience for gin drinkers and connoisseurs alike.

Height of Arrows Heavy is the ‘bolder, deeper’ variation of the pair, made by roasting the juniper in order to extract more flavour. The 46% ABV gin is then sweetened a small amount in the Old Tom style of the spirit. It is said to offer notes of pine and spices on the nose, with white blossom, citrus and vanilla on the palate.

The herbaceous nature of the gin makes it suitable for serving in cocktails, or with a sharp grapefruit tonic.

The Height of Arrows Bright uses three times more juniper than the original Height of Arrows gin, focusing on the ‘innate’ flavourings of the berry. The use of multi-shot distillation has further concentrated the botanical’s flavour.

The result is an ‘extraordinarily bright’ and juniper-forward expression, which clouds when married with tonic, due to the retention of the juniper’s complex oils.

The 48% ABV Bright expression is recommended served in a Gimlet.

Both expressions are sold in 700ml bottles for an RRP of £34.95 (US$41.43) each.

Earlier this year, Holyrood Distillery introduced a new category of spirits to the UK, called ‘Strong Waters’.
