The Paloma cocktail has risen in popularity in the UK

Franklin & Sons will offer £10,000 (US$11,861) worth of free Tequila-based cocktail kits to UK residents next week through an online giveaway.

The kit will include Franklin & Sons’ Pink Grapefruit Soda for mixing in a Paloma cocktail.

The drink is described as Mexico’s top cocktail, with interest in the UK increasing by 54% in the past year, according to Google Trends data.

Sam Coles, senior brand manager at Franklin & Sons, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the Paloma cocktail rise in popularity across the UK over the last year, as the serve has made its way out of city bars and become the up-and-coming drink to make at events and parties this summer.

“This refreshing cocktail, thought to be first created in the town of Tequila, is often seen as the most popular cocktail in Mexico, above the well-known Margarita, and is massively growing in popularity here in the UK as many discover its refreshing flavours.”

To make the Paloma, the brand suggests combining 50ml Patrón, 10ml lime juice, 10ml of agave syrup and top with Franklin & Sons Pink Grapefruit Soda into a highball glass, fill with ice and stir well. It is recommended garnished with a slice or wedge of grapefruit, with the option of rimming the glass with salt.

Participants also have the chance to win 90 minutes of social darts for up to 12 guests, plus a £300 (US$356) bar tab to spend on food and drinks at Flight Club venues in the UK. For the chance to win the prize, drinkers must upload a picture of their Paloma creation to Instagram, tag @franklinandsons and use the hashtag #remarkabledrinks.

To sign up for a free Paloma cocktail kit, visit the Franklin & Sons website. Winners will be chosen at random.

In March this year, Franklin & Sons launched a video series celebrating the on-trade in key cities across England.
