The Real Mary King’s Close, part of the Continuum Attractions Group, has collaborated with Edinburgh Gin to offer a gin storytelling and tasting experience at the visitor attraction.

The ‘Stories and Wonders’ gin tasting tours will be held at the historical attraction, located beneath Edinburgh’s Royal Mile in the capital’s Old Town area.

The tastings will be held on select Fridays and Saturdays during July to celebrate Scotland’s official Year of Stories 2022 as part of Scottish Tourism Week.

While learning about the history of the close from a dedicated guide, visitors will have the chance to sample four expressions from the Edinburgh Gin range.

Each gin has a historical tie to Edinburgh’s Old Town, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh Castle’s one o’clock gun and gin trade at the Port of Leith.

The gins on offer include the classic Edinburgh Gin, Navy Strength Cannonball Gin, and Pomegranate and Rose Liqueur, as well as Edinburgh Gin’s 1670, which is inspired by the same time period as the historical close.

Jennifer Houston, distillery supervisor for Edinburgh Gin Distillery, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for us to share and compare our love for history and storytelling with the team and guests of The Real Mary King’s Close, alongside being able to share our passion for showcasing our range of creative gins and gin liqueurs.

“This partnership has allowed us to create a tailor-made tasting offering, allowing our passionate team to deliver this history led tasting session, diving into Edinburgh’s historical gin ties, and creating the inspiration for these hand selected gins, which we hope will complement the tour offering from The Real Mary King’s Close team.”

The one-and-a-half hour guided ‘Stories and Wonders’ tour and tasting will start at The Real Mary King’s Close, Warriston’s Close, at 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm and 6.30pm on eight dates from 8-30 July.

Tickets are priced at £35 (US$41.70) per adult.

Last July, the Ian Macleod Distillers-owned brand partnered with actor Phoebe Waller-Bridge to create a limited edition bottle celebrating her hit TV series Fleabag.
