Casa Lumbre debuts ‘first’ premium cristalino mezcal
Mexican spirits producer Casa Lumbre has launched Contraluz, the ‘first’ premium and artisanal cristalino mezcal.
Contraluz is a 100% artisanal mezcal, boasting a new-to-market filtration process that uses activated charcoal to produce a colourless, smooth flavour profile without compromising on the spirit’s signature taste.

Contraluz Cristalino is made from cultivated Espadín agave that is matured for approximately six months in charred American oak barrels.
Under the supervision of chief innovation officer Ivan Saldaña, Casa Lumbre has applied its proprietary method of small-batch filtration to matured mezcal to deliver the first Cristalino mezcal.
The liquid’s primary flavours of green agave, citrus and light smoke are complemented by further notes of vanilla, cedar, honey and dried fruit. Its finish is sweet and long-lasting, balanced by the taste of cooked agave, clove and cacao.
It is recommended enjoyed neat or in cocktails.
The packaging is designed to represent Contraluz Cristalino’s luxury positioning in the category of agave-based distillates. The textured bottle pays homage to mezcal’s raw material – the agave heart – and acts as a prism that ‘celebrates and spotlights’ the crystal-clear liquid.
The expression is currently available in Mexico, and in selected US states including California, Texas, Florida, New York, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Illinois.
Expansion across the US and internationally will continue into 2023.

Casa Lumbre’s portfolio includes Ancho Reyes liqueur, Montelobos mezcal, Mexican whisky Abasolo, Nixta corn liqueur, and Lost Irish Whiskey. Its brand Ojo de Tigre mezcal secured investment from Pernod Ricard in 2020.
