The Spirit of One debuts carafe bottle

UK-based One Gin has debuted its art deco-inspired butterfly bottle, the ‘first ever’ spirits bottle designed to be used as a carafe.

One gin, owned by The Spirit of One, rolled out the new bottle at London-based Wimbledon’s Pub in the Park in May.

The Spirit Of One co-founder Cecile Beaufils said: “Customers kept coming back because of the bottle design and the product sold fantastically well.

“We created One Gin and the butterfly bottle to turn the UK’s love of gin into clean water. We know how transformative the right bottle and right design can be for a drinks business but until now, we had struggled to convey our purpose around the butterfly effect.

“At the heart of everything we do, there is a passion for outstanding spirits of the highest quality. But we also believe that business can and should be a force for good.”

Created in collaboration with hospitality design specialists Saint Design and designer Sinead Floyd, the sustainability-led hexagonal bottle features debossed art deco butterfly wings and a vintage glass feel.

The bottle labels are made of paper using recycled apple pulp, with a closure made with wood and natural cork. The bottle is below the average weight of a 700ml spirits bottle.

The butterfly emblem represents The Spirit Of One’s vision around the butterfly effect – that a small act can lead to great change – with 10% of profits going to The One Foundation, a charity with a mission to provide sustainable water programmes to the world’s poorest communities.

“We wanted to create a bottle that exudes the brand’s ethical mission and that cuts against the norm of what has become expected of a gin bottle,” commented Floyd. “The reverse of the labels have lovely details too with clusters of hand drawn illustrations of the key flavours.

“The best part about this bottle is when the gin is gone an epigram leads you to remove the labels revealing ‘water’ debossed into the front, taking you right back to why this was created: to go towards funding clean water projects all over the world.”

The One Gin range includes One Gin Classic, a London Dry gin with notes of fresh English sage, juniper, and citrus, and One Crisp Apple gin which offers notes of balanced juniper, russet apple and English sage. Both retail at RRP £36 (US$45.23).

The new bottle designs are available in UK stockists including Ocado, Master of Malt, Fuller’s Pubs and Majestic Wine and are distributed by Speciality Drinks, Nectar Imports and Venus.

In December, The Spirits Business unveiled which bottles had made the best impression on 0ur judges with the results of The Design & Packaging Masters 2021.
