Flor de Caña cocktail competition seeks best bartenders in Europe
Ultra-premium, Nicaraguan rum brand Flor de Caña is inviting bartenders from around Europe to enter the 2022 edition of its Sustainable Cocktail Challenge.
The Fair Trade and carbon neutral-certified rum brand hosts a global cocktail competition every year, which aims to inspire the on-trade to work towards a greener future.
The Flor de Caña Sustainable Cocktail Challenge was designed to celebrate the rum brand’s historic commitment to being eco-friendly, and endeavours to share and promote these values with the global community of bartenders.
All participants will benefit from access to courses and education seminars on sustainability topics and ethical practices behind the bar – all taught by industry experts.
Entries should be submitted online at www.flordecanachallenge.com, and applicants should note the different deadlines for various regions.
Bartenders from France should make sure they enter before 24 June.
Aspiring competitors from the UK and Spain have until 30 June to enter their personal data and information about their sustainable cocktail.
Furthermore, the deadline for Germany is 15 July, and 10 August for Italy.
Over the following months, the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge will be held in each country, judged by a panel of judges comprising well-known industry professionals.
Each cocktail will be judged on various criteria, including history and inspiration, the use of sustainable ingredients and techniques, the level of creativity, flavour and appearance.
The winner of each local iteration of the competition will be crowned ‘Flor de Caña Most Sustainable Bartender’, a trophy made from sustainable materials, a super-premium bartender kit, a personalised bottle of Flor de Caña 25 Years Old Rum, a cash prize, and the chance to compete in the European regional final in Berlin in October.
The European Regional Final champion will then have the opportunity to compete in the global final of the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge in Nicaragua in 2023, where the overall winner will claim the title of ‘Flor de Caña World’s Most Sustainable Bartender’ and a cash prize of US$10,000.
