Filey Bay debuts Peated Finish Batch #2
The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has launched the second batch of its peat-finished whiskies, following the success of its first release last year.
Filey Bay Peated Finish Batch #2 builds on the Yorkshire-based distillery’s house-style whisky, which offers light and fruity notes from Bourbon cask maturation.
The combination of its two distillate styles has undergone a second maturation in peated casks, with subtle notes of peat smoke alongside flavours of soft vanilla, caramel and citrus.
“After the success of our first Peated Finish last year, we’re very happy to announce the launch of Filey Bay Peated Finish Batch #2,” said Spirit of Yorkshire director and co-founder David Thompson.
“As a distillery, we are passionate about pushing the boundaries of whisky making, which is why we are always experimenting with different casks to finish our whisky in. Our customers have been asking for the return of our Peated Finish ever since the release of Batch #1 sold out, and we’re delighted to be able to say that it’s back.”
The distillery’s whisky director, Joe Clark, added: “We really feel that Filey Bay Peated Finish Batch #2 is the perfect whisky for both those who love peated whiskies and those who are less familiar with them.
“Its subtle smokiness is prominent enough to make an impact but gentle enough not to overpower our house style. Our finishes are all about balance, and this bottling is the perfect example of that.”
The distillery is located ‘a stone’s throw’ from co-founder Tom Mellor’s working arable farm in Hunmanby on the Yorkshire coast, which has been in Mellor’s family since World War II.
Named for the pristine beach in North Yorkshire visible from the distillery, the brand’s whisky is made with 100% home-grown barley from the farm, and is one of the only true ‘field to bottle’ whiskies in the world.
The Peated Finish Batch #2 is bottled at 46% ABV, and is now available via the distillery’s website and selected retailers around the UK, for an RRP £60 (US$72.90).
Alongside the Peated Finish Batch #2, the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery’s initial finished range includes the Filey Bay STR Finish; the Filey Bay Moscatel Finish; and various other limited-run releases using a range of maturation techniques, including the World Whisky Masters 2021 Master medal-winning Filey Bay Fino Sherry cask finish.
Filey Bay Flagship is the distillery’s first widely available bottling, following the limited-run First Release and Second Release.
