Yorkshire distillery launches Sherry cask-finished whisky
By Melita KielyEnglish producer Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has released its first Sherry cask-finished whisky, called Filey Bay Moscatel Finish.
Filey Bay Moscatel Finish was aged in Bourbon casks, then finished in Moscatel hogsheadsThe whisky will be shipped to consumers once the UK lockdown is over, but the distillery is accepting orders for the new release via its website: spiritofyorkshire.com.
David Thompson, Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery co-founder, said: “We’re in strange times at the moment. We’ve been planning this release since autumn last year.
“We wanted to continue with the launch, but we’ve evolved our plan so that it’s available to pre-order now and will be delivered, with free delivery to UK mainland, once it’s safe to do so.”
The single malt was first matured in Bourbon casks that were filled in 2016. The liquid was then transferred to Spanish Moscatel hogsheads to finish.
“The use of Bourbon casks followed by Moscatel barrels to finish creates a really interesting flavourful whisky,” added Thompson. “It’s still light and soft like Filey Bay first and second releases, but with more layers of fruit and sweet spices.”
Bottled at 46% ABV, Filey Bay Moscatel Finish is limited to 6,000 bottles, priced at RRP £60 (US$74).
