Zamora Company moves into agave spirits

Spanish drinks firm Zamora Company has entered the agave spirits sector with the addition of Mezcal San Cosme to its portfolio in the US.

Zamora Company’s US subsidiary will import, sell and market the mezcal brand in the States, effective immediately.

Produced in Oaxaca, Mexico, San Cosme is made from 100% espadín agave that is cooked for three days with mesquite wood in a conical earthen pit oven. It is then shredded with a traditional tahona stone wheel, followed by fermentation in oak tanks and double distillation in copper pot stills.

“We have been searching for some time for the perfect agave spirits that align with our high standards and meticulous focus on the world’s top-quality ultra-premium products,” said Bill Corbett, CEO of Zamora Company USA.

“Without a doubt, San Cosme is one of the finest mezcals in the category, led by an incredibly passionate and talented team in Oaxaca, the premier region in Mexico for mezcal production. We’re very proud to represent this world-class brand here in the US.”

San Cosme was founded in 2010 by three childhood friends. The brand name comes from Saint Cosmas, the patron saint of doctors, who performed medical miracles.

The mezcal is available in more than 30 countries, including China, the UK, Australia, France, Spain, and Germany.

Gernot Allnoch, co-founder of Mezcal San Cosme, added: “We are very excited for this partnership, it’s a crucial step in our mission to bring the best of Mexico to the world, and we could not think of a better partner than the Zamora Company to make this dream come to life.”

The Zamora Company portfolio, which includes Licor 43 liqueur and Martin Miller’s gin, is distributed by Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits in 41 US states. Horizon Beverage Group distributes the portfolio in other states.

Earlier this year, Zamora Company appointed Javier Pijoan as its new CEO, succeeding Emilio Restoy.
