Walsh Whiskey unveils cask strength Writers’ Tears

Irish whiskey producer Walsh Whiskey has released the 12th edition of its cask strength Writers’ Tears bottling.

The 2022 cask strength whiskey is limited to 7,920 bottles

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022 is a mix of aged single pot still and single malt whiskeys.

Both styles were distilled three times, aged in American oak Bourbon barrels, and bottled without chill filtration.

Sitting at 54.6% ABV, this year’s vintage is limited to 7,920 bottles – of which 2,100 are earmarked for the US. The remaining bottles will be sold around the world, including in the travel retail channel.

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022 is priced at RRP US$150 (€140) per bottle.

Bernard Walsh, Writers’ Tears creator and co-founder of Walsh Whiskey, commented: “Cask strength Irish whiskey is still quite rare but our vatting combining both pot still and single malt is truly unique.

“Consumers are looking to trade-up their Irish whiskey experience and this is a genuine super-premium expression that has steadily built a following internationally over the last 12 years.”

Tasting notes include aromas of pear drops and candied fruits, with heather honey, fennel and cinnamon on the palate. The finish is described as delivering ‘creamy, chewy toffee’.

Luxembourg-based Amber Beverage Group acquired (ABG) Irish whiskey producer Walsh Whiskey for an undisclosed amount last year.

Earlier this year, Walsh Whiskey invested €500,000 (US$564,400) in its super-premium single malt whiskey brand The Irishman.

In 2021, the producer debuted Writers’ Tears Ice Wine Cask Finish, created in partnership with Canadian winery Inniskillin.

In additional Amber Beverage Group news, in October last year ABG rebranded more of its companies under the unifying name ‘Amber’.
