Corralejo creates extra añejo Tequila

Tequila brand Corralejo has expanded its core collection with the release of an extra añejo expression.

Like the rest of the range, Corralejo Extra Añejo is made with 100% Blue Weber agave, hand harvested from the hacienda’s fields and slow cooked in stone clay ovens for 36 hours.

Afterwards, it is fermented with a speciality strain of yeast produced in-house and double-distilled in column stills and Alembic copper stills from Spain.

The Tequila is then aged for 36 months in charred American oak barrels.

The 40% ABV expression offers a sweet and spicy aroma with notes of oak, smoke, citrus, caramel and agave sugar on the palate. The finish is long and full bodied.

The bottling has been released ahead of National Hispanic Heritage Month (15 September-15 October) and Mexican Independence Day on 16 September.

“The opportunity within the luxury Tequila category is extraordinary,” said Marcel Durand, vice-president of marketing, Infinium Spirits, US importer of Corralejo.

“Growth is up 23%, and it is outperforming all other spirits with aged expressions like reposado, añejo and extra añejo more in demand than ever. Corralejo’s Extra Añejo is poised to be a leader within the category.”

The debut of the new Tequila follows the recent release of Corralejo’s limited edition 25th Anniversary Extra Añejo, which celebrates 250 years of Tequila-making tradition and 25 years of the brand.

Corralejo Extra Añejo Tequila will be available from the end of September at select US retailers with an RRP of US$79.99.
