This year’s Causeway Collection comprises Bushmills 2000 Port Cask and Bushmills 1991 Madeira Cask. Both whiskeys are non-chill-filtered.

The Port Cask single malt sits at its natural strength of 54.1% ABV. Only 2,322 bottles will be available, priced at £260 (US$350) per 700ml.

It will be available to purchase in the UK from the end of November through Hedonism, Master of Malt, Selfridges and The Whisky Exchange.

Tasting notes include aromas of red fruits, ripe raspberry and plum, leading to strawberry, caramelised toffee, sweet chilli and allspice on the palate. The finish is said to bring lingering sweet spices.

Meanwhile, Bushmills 1991 Madeira Cask is limited to just 738 bottles. The whiskey was aged for more than 13 years in a combination of oloroso Sherry butts and Bourbon barrels, before being filled into Madeira wine casks for another 15 years.

Bottled at cask strength, 50.2% ABV, the whiskey will be available exclusively through the The Whisky Shop from 1 November.

Tasting notes include fruit, mandarin, toasted cocoa, black coffee and charred oak aromas, nutty praline creaminess, chocolate and coffee on the palate, with dried fruit and a long finish.

Colum Egan, Bushmills master distiller, said: “All the whiskeys used in The Causeway Collection have been expertly created and cared for by craftsmen steeped in a unique whiskey-making tradition passed from generation to generation for more than 400 years here at The Old Bushmills Distillery.

“The Causeway Collection celebrates our extremely rare and unique casks, our passion for single malts and honours our rich heritage. It’s a privilege to work with such rare liquid, these special cask whiskeys really are our greatest treasures.

“We were delighted with how the Bushmills Causeway Collection was received globally in 2020, with some even selling out in minutes – and we can’t wait to share this year’s Collection with the world.”

Bushmills partnership: George the Poet

To celebrate the launch, Bushmills partnered with George the Poet, full name George Mpanga, to create a poem inspired by the brand’s heritage.

Part of the brand’s Singular Tales campaign, Mpanga has recorded a spoken word performance of the poem, which will feature across Bushmills’ social media channels.

The poem aims to encourage people to share their own tales over a glass of whiskey.

Earlier this year, the Irish whiskey brand released the first two expressions in its new cask-finished range.
