GlenAllachie debuts rum and rebrands MacNair’s

Speyside distillery The GlenAllachie has revealed its Exploration Rum range as part of the MacNair’s rebranding.

The Exploration Rum range consists of three expressions, all sitting at 46% ABV

GlenAllachie Distillery has repositioned its MacNair’s brand, relaunching as MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits.

With the rebrand comes the company’s first line of rum, Exploration Rum, which has been created by master blender Billy Walker.

Walker said: “I’ve long held a desire to explore and apply my expertise to a new spirit category, curious as to what the outcome could be.

“Rum was an exciting prospect as, in a similar vein to whisky, it allows for greater scope of innovation and experimentation, particularly in regard to maturation.”

The series has been released with the inclusion of two seven-year-olds, as peated and unpeated iterations, and a 15-year-old.

“I’ve spent a great deal of time sampling and tracking down what I deem to be the finest rums from across the world to bring to my lab at The GlenAllachie Distillery, and put my own distinctive twist on [them],” Walker added.

The line of Exploration Rum was matured in American oak casks in the Panama, before being transferred to the cooler maturation environment in Speyside, Scotland.

The seven-year-old peated single malt has received secondary maturation in GlenAllachie’s whisky casks.

Meanwhile, the regular seven-year-old and 15-year-old were filled to red wine, virgin oak and ex-Bourbon casks for over two years.

The non-chill-filtered range of rums all sit at 46% ABV, with 400 cases available per expression.

The peated seven-year-old retails for RRP £46.99 (US$65.15), the unpeated seven-year-old for £42.99 (US$59.61), and the 15-year-old for £64.99 (US$90.11).

New design for Lum Reek

The GlenAllachie Distillers Company’s Lum Reek blended Scotch malt whisky has also received a packaging revamp.

The range comprises a 12-year-old and a 21-year-old, with an ABV of 46% and 48% respectively.

Walker noted that the new packaging was “more contemporary and eye-catching”, featuring hand-drawn illustrations.

Lum Reek whisky 21-year-old can be purchased for an RRP of £125 (US$173.21), while the 12-year-old is available for RRP £49.99 (US$69.27).

MacNair’s Boutique House of Spirits’ whiskies and rums are available to purchase via global specialist retailers.
