The new Zero Waste Month campaign invites bars and restaurants around the world to reduce food waste by offering sustainable cocktails. According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), reducing global food waste is one of the best ways to fight climate change.

The rum brand has teamed up with leading bartenders in more than 30 countries on the creation of zero-waste cocktails for consumers during July 2021.

The cocktails are made with Flor de Caña rum, which is carbon neutral, Fair Trade-certified, and with ingredients from re-purposed food leftovers.

Bartenders Georgi Radev (UK), Remy Savage (UK), Patrick Pistolesi (Italy), Yeray Monforte (Spain), Bastien Ciocca (China), Ashish Sharma (Kuala Lumpur) and Julio Cabrera (US) have joined the initiative as sustainability ambassadors.

The bartenders will take to social media to raise awareness of food waste, and inspire venues and consumers to reduce the amount of food that is thrown away.

The new campaign is part of Flor de Caña’s sustainability programme, Together for a Greener Future, and supported by global non-profit Food Made Good.

Food Made Good helps venues design zero-waste cocktails and implement green practises across their business.

Simon Heppner, CEO of Food Made Good, said: “Working with an ambitious, outward-looking and creative partner like Flor de Caña is the most effective way we can accelerate progressive practice across hospitality, making bars and restaurant a part of a global sustainability solution.”

Venues taking part in the initiative include London bars Laki Kane, Coupette and A Bar with Shapes for a Name; Commacero, Bad Company 1920 and Gramophone in Spain; Piano 35 Lounge, Il Sereno and Peck in Italy; and Lovebird, Bovem and Divine in France, among others.
