Diplomático launches Mixed Consciously cocktail comp
By Kate MalczewskiVenezuelan rum producer Diplomático has opened entries for its UK cocktail competition, Mixed Consciously.
Mixed Consciously tasks bartenders with crafting sustainability-focused cocktails, for the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Venezuela in 2022.
To participate, bartenders must develop a cocktail using either Diplomático Planas or Mantuano rums, along with homemade ingredients and locally sourced produce. Each element of the serve must be used ‘to its full potential’ with an eye to waste reduction.
To coincide with the competition, Dean MacGregor, UK brand ambassador for Diplomático, will host on-trade training sessions, both in venues and online, throughout the summer; to enter, bartenders must participate in a session.
The best entries will be asked to participate in an in-person final, to be held at zero-waste restaurant Terroir Tapas in Bournemouth this autumn. Judges will include James Fowler, owner of Terroir Tapas, and a representative from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
Mixed Consciously is part of Diplomático’s global Artisans of Taste competition and its wider Distilled Consciously sustainability campaign, through which the brand has committed to investing in the local community and reducing waste, energy use and emissions.
The UK winner of Mixed Consciously will travel to the Diplomático distillery in Venezuela with the Artisans of Taste champions from other countries, and their winning recipes will be published in a zero-waste cocktail book in 2022.
