London bar Quaglino’s reopened this week (17 May) for the first time since December due to lockdown restrictions.

With a line-up of new food, new cocktails and live performances, the Mayfair venue is ready to welcome ‘guests back to the days of gourmet and glamour’.

The bar is introducing its new cocktail menu, The Glamour Is Back, including cocktails such as Quaglino’s Express, made with Havana 7 and cold brew coffee liqueur, and a limited edition cocktail, The Duke’s Strength. Honouring Prince Philip, this concoction combines Plymouth Gin Navy Strength with Greek olive oil and Belsazar vermouth dry, as a nod to the prince’s Royal Navy past.

Little-Red-Door-ParisThe Paris-based bar, which reopened on 19 May, invites customers to its new terrace to enjoy its cocktail menu Don’t Judge a Door by its Colour.
Cocktails on the menu include Honey without Sweet, made with Woodford Reserve Rye, Honey Spirit and pollen, and Coffee Without Bitter, which combines coffee distillate, strawberry and vermouth.

London-based bar Artesian opened its doors yesterday (20 May), and unveiled its new cocktail menu inspired by experiences that brought people together in 2020.

The bar’s new menu, named Connections, comprises 18 drinks divided into five sections, ranging from ‘Celebration’ to ‘Community’. Another section, ‘Wellness & Mindfulness’, includes both alcohol-free drinks and cocktails of a lower ABV.

A standout cocktail, included as a nod to lockdown trends, is the Banana Bread 1933 cocktail. The Artesian team combined rye whiskey, oloroso Sherry, banana Monin and burnt toast to create this serve.

Hospitality charity exhibition launches

After two years of collaboration, 60 bartenders, chefs and artists are raising awareness of mental health with cocktails, food and art in Fulham, at an exhibition called ‘Wrestling Demons’. The London event is the first live, free exhibition of its kind, taking place from 20 May-6 June in Fulham Town Hall. 

Proceeds from affordable art prints will support hospitality charities The Drinks Trust and Hospitality Action.

Limited edition cocktails inspired by the art will be available to order from a variety of the participating bartenders and bars via Drinkinbible.

100 Wardour St reopens with live music

100 Wardour St.

100 Wardour opened its doors yesterday (20 May), and will showcase live music performances until Sunday, which will ‘have you dancing in your seats, and the streets afterwards’. Over the course of May and June, the Soho venue will be hosting a range of intimate music performances, including genres such as ’90s R&B and acoustic. With various themed nights taking place each week, 100 Wardour St predicts an ‘electric summer’ filled with music.

Bluebird White City launches Mexican fiesta

The Bluebirdcafé is partnering with Tequila brand Casamigos to bring West Londoners a ‘Mexican fiesta’ from today (21 May).

Bluebird Café will be transformed into an ‘oasis paradise’ with its own pop-up Casamigos Tequila bar, and decorated with palms, flowers and foliage to give visitors a sense of a holiday destination. 

A cocktail menu in partnership with Casamigos Tequila and Mezcal will be available, with choices such as Casa Margarita, Bloody Amigos and Casa Paloma. Mexican food will also be served.

Teeling Whiskey Distillery reopens for tours

Dublin-based Teeling Whiskey Distillery will reopen for tours from tomorrow (22 May). The Irish whiskey producer encourages customers to ‘experience the sights, sounds, smells and tastes’ of their distillery, which boasts a range of Father’s Day gifts.

Secret Garden is reopening its gardens to visitors for its Gin Garden and Distillery Tours in Edinburgh.

The Scottish-based distillery, which recently underwent a name change, creates hand-harvested natural gins from its own botanical garden.

The distillery’s Secret Garden has more than 600 varieties of herbs and plants, which contribute to the production of the 39% ABV bottling.

The Garden tour provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the varying garden botanicals, and ends with a tasting session.

Tours take place from 22 May, twice a day every weekend. Tickets are available from The Secret Garden Distillery website at £15 (US$21) per person.

NYC-based Mace reopens in new space

Mace will be offering both indoor and outdoor service from 25 May, opening in a new space after relocating to 35 West Eighth Street in Greenwich Village.

Mace is also introducing a new worldwide-inspired drinks menu with 19 cocktails, including non-alcoholic options.

The travel-influenced sips include Greek-inspired Bay Leaf, made with Mediterranean flavours, and the Iranian-inspired Sumac, paying homage to the Southeast Asian dish of curried jackfruit with black rice by incorporating sake, jackfruit, black rice and egg.

Mace’s new, larger space, comprises a front bar, fireplace alcove and back room.

This weekend, Bourbon brand Buffalo Trace is launching a ‘Buffalo Trace BBQ & Bourbon SOS service’. Consumers can book a slot this week on universe.com to get a one-to-one live session from Marcus Bawdon, barbecue expert and editor of the UK BBQ Magazine on 29 May. The eight selected barbecue-lovers will get live tips and tricks to perfect their barbecue and Bourbon cocktails from midday-5pm BST. They will also receive a chance to win the distillery’s flagship Bourbon.
