New Riff plans $2m expansion
Kentucky-based New Riff Distilling will begin a US$2 million expansion of its site next month, which will increase production by 50%.
Construction at the distillery is expected to start in mid-May, subject to permits. The expansion will add 900 sq ft to the site in Newport and includes the installation of three new fermenters.
The expansion is expected to be completed by December 2021.
The project will fix a current production bottleneck, allowing distilling to take place six days a week instead of four. The move is predicted to increase production to 12,000 barrels annually, up from 8,000 currently.
“We remain committed to becoming one of the great small distilleries of the world,” New Riff Distilling founder Ken Lewis said.
“This expansion will help us achieve that goal while remaining a family-owned business with no outside ownership.”
The aim of the expansion is to allow the site to have more older bottlings and specialty products available in the future. The distillery will also look to build more rickhouses soon.
Furthermore, New Riff will hire five new employees.
Founded in 2014, New Riff is based in northern Kentucky and produces Bourbon, rye and gin.
