Flor de Caña aims high with pledge to plant 1m trees
Sustainably produced rum brand Flor de Caña is reiterating its commitment to the environment by pledging to plant more than one million trees by 2025.
Flor de Caña, a carbon neutral and Fair Trade-certified premium rum, has already planted almost 750,000 trees since 2005 through its own annual reforestation initiative.
To build on this further, the brand has now teamed up with environmental charity One Tree Planted to launch a global reforestation campaign that aims to ensure a greener future for generations to come.
Through this partnership, both organisations will work together to raise awareness on the importance of reforestation and inspire consumers, bartenders and members of the public to donate through the One Tree Planted platform, which ensures that one tree is planted for every US$1 donation received. Furthermore, Flor de Caña will match all donations received to deliver an even greater impact through the campaign.
The global campaign, titled Together for a Greener Future, will include a series of activations with retailers, bars, restaurants and on social media (#TogetherForAGreenerFuture) to engage eco-conscious consumers who want to be part of a good cause and help restore forests around the world.
Diana Chaplin, Canopy director at One Tree Planted, said: “Trees are essential for biodiversity and a healthy climate, so it’s great to work with a brand so committed to making a positive impact for reforestation and sustainability overall.”
Once Flor de Caña has reached its goal of planting one million trees, it will be equal to an area approximately 11 times the size of Monaco.
The new campaign fully aligns with Flor de Caña’s core values. In addition to its reforestation endeavours, the rum brand captures and recycles all carbon dioxide emissions during the fermentation process and uses 100% renewable energy during distillation.
One Tree Planted is a 501C not-for-profit environmental charity dedicated to global reforestation. The organisation works with partners in North America, South America, Asia and Africa to plant trees and restore forests after fires and floors, create jobs, build communities and protect habitats to help biodiversity thrive.
