Spirits Europe is calling for ‘coordinated’ action to help hospitality businesses reopen and recover from the pandemic

The #WeStandReady campaign urges ‘clear and coordinated’ action from governments, hospitality operators and other trade bodies to aid the sector’s recovery following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spirits Europe is calling for the establishment of an EU task force and recovery fund to bring together cross-sector representatives, plus national ministers and the European Commission.

It is also highlighting the need to give operators the ‘best guidance’ on how to reopen safely with Covid-secure measures in place.

Plus, the trade body has stressed the importance of developing a vision for long-term recovery.

Ulrich Adam, director general of Spirits Europe, said: “The hospitality and tourism sectors do not just support millions of jobs in Europe, they are part of our heritage and often form the backbone of our communities.

“Hospitality – and the whole supply chain – need to be put at the heart of the EU recovery fund and national recovery plans.

“In the short term, operators must be provided with the best guidance on how to operate safely to ensure a sustainable reopening strategy. All this needs to happen while we work on a vision for long-term recovery.”

Spirits Europe recently joined the Tourism Manifesto alliance and the Hospitality alliance to develop ‘concrete solutions’ to the problems facing hospitality and tourism in the wake of Covid-19.

Adam added: “Through #WeStandReady, we want to reiterate our willingness to do so and hope that others will follow our call.”
