Ryan Reynolds and David Beckham back on-trade
David Beckham, Ryan Reynolds and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs have donated US$1 million to support bartenders affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a video released across social media this weekend, Reynolds, part-owner of Aviation Gin; Combs, co-owner of Deleón Tequila; and Beckham, of Haig Club whisky, announced the donation to three on-trade organisations. The three drinks brands are part of Diageo’s portfolio.
The funds will be split between Another Round, Another Rally, a non-profit financial resource for the hospitality industry in the US; Bartender’s Benevolent Fund, which supports struggling hospitality professionals in Canada; and The Drinks Trust, which has been providing support, care and assistance to the UK drinks industry since 1886.
The video, which was released ahead of the Super Bowl match between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, saw the three stars attempt to create a cocktail that infused their three spirits together with ingredients from Tampa Bay in Florida, and Kansas City, Missouri.
After discovering the resulting drink “is not going to work”, the trio elects instead to leave the mixology to the professionals, and announces the US$1m donation.
Last year, Reynolds also announced he was donating 30% of online sales of Aviation Gin to the United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) to support on-trade members affected by coronavirus.
