Diageo debuts low-sugar Baileys Deliciously Light
Diageo has released a ‘lighter’ version of its Baileys cream liqueur, which is 40% lower in calories and sugar than the flagship variant.
The new Baileys Deliciously Light is the latest innovation from the world’s biggest-selling liqueur brand. Made with Irish cream and whiskey, the liqueur has ‘rich cocoa and vanilla flavours’.
A 2.5oz (71ml) serving of the new liqueur contains 139 calories and 7.8g of sugar. In comparison, a 2.5oz pour of Baileys Original Irish Cream contains 233 calories and 13.3g of sugar.
The 16.1% ABV expression is recommended served in a number of ways including over ice, chilled, in a smoothie, or with hot, iced or whipped coffee.
Stacey Cunningham, director of Baileys and liqueurs, Diageo North America, said: “We all deserve a little treat and with the launch of Baileys Deliciously Light, it’s the perfect reminder for us to take that well-deserved time for ourselves this year.”
Baileys has also partnered with US subscription service Cocktail Courier to offer four Light Break cocktail packages that include the new liqueur and cocktail ingredients.
To celebrate the launch of Baileys Deliciously Light, Diageo also teamed up with actor Neil Patrick Harris. The How I Met Your Mother star gifted one of the cocktail sets to his friend, Michael Serranto.
The Motivated Maven kit comes with ingredients to make the Rose Coloured Glasses cocktail using coconut water, alongside a yoga towel and daily planner. The Busybody kit can make a coffee-based cocktail and comes with espresso mugs and an inspirational desk plate.
Meanwhile, the Soul Supplies set provides ingredients to make the green tea-based Boba cocktail, and offers a head massager and cosy socks. Lastly, the limited edition Ultimately Light Break kit features the Gold Standard cocktail, made with Belgian chocolate, gold leaf, black cherry and whipped cream. Only five sets of the kit are available, which includes a personalised pre-recorded video greeting from Harris.
“Without a doubt, one of the best parts of the day is when you can finally take a moment and treat yourself to a much-needed break,” said Harris. “However, many of us forget to do just that. As we ease into 2021, it’s obvious that we all need to take it easy every now and then.
“That’s why I’ve partnered with Baileys to launch Baileys Deliciously Light. It provides the perfect option for an afternoon treat when you can use a moment for yourself or with loved ones.”
Baileys Deliciously Light is available to buy across the US for RRP US$24.99 per 750ml bottle.
To meet demand from the vegan community, Diageo removed beeswax from its gluten-free and dairy-free Baileys Almande liqueur recipe to grant it ‘certified vegan’ status in the US.
